Pete Felten Legacy Foundation

Specific Need

For over 70 years, Pete Felten took a hammer and chisel to massive blocks of Kansas limestone, transforming raw earth into the living history of the American West. From his downtown Hays studio, he shaped the visual identity of our community and state, leaving behind dozens of iconic monuments that stand as testaments to his old-school craftsmanship. Now, it’s our turn to leave a mark for Pete! Give to the Pete Felten Legacy Fund and help save his artwork and the Stone Gallery. The Pete Felten Legacy Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization. We are committed to protecting his public works, preserving his historic Stone Gallery, and ensuring his artistic spirit inspires future generations.

Mission

The Pete Felten Legacy Foundation relies on the generosity of the community to fund the preservation of Pete’s sculptures, the maintenance of the Stone Gallery, and our ongoing educational missions.

Profile

The Pete Felten Legacy Fund honors the artistic legacy of sculptor Pete Felten, whose limestone works are deeply woven into the identity of Hays and the surrounding region. Established by a group of Pete’s friends, the fund supports immediate and long-term efforts to protect his studio, care for and document his artwork, and prepare for a future space that will share his work with the public. Pete was aware of and supportive of this effort prior to his passing.

Support from the Pete Felten Legacy Fund will help to:

  • Secure and preserve Pete Felten’s studio and workspace
  • Care for, catalog, and document his artwork and materials
  • Lay the groundwork for a future museum, gallery, and garden
  • Ensure Pete’s legacy is stewarded with care and intention
  • Provide professional fund administration and charitable oversight through the Heartland Community Foundation

Donations to the Pete Felten Legacy Fund help protect his art and studio while advancing plans to share his work with future generations. Charitable contributions are welcome at any time, including cash and non-cash donations, such as IRA charitable distributions, appreciated stock, and more.
